The purpose of this workshop is to teach the fundamentals of a practical method to evaluate soils in the field.
Reinforcement will come through extensive use of hands on exercises in the classroom and in the field.
Onsite wastewater professionals must be able to describe and interpret soils in a systemic manner. The use of a common method provides for clear communication with other professionals and consistency between sites over time.
The following topics will be covered: soil properties and characteristics; soil texture and structure determination; water movement in soil; how to utilize basic soils information to arrive at a wastewater (septic system) loading rate to properly size onsite wastewater systems; use soil and site conditions to derive wastewater system options.
